The Downtown Natchez Alliance (DNA) is thrilled to announce our newest annual event, the inaugural Natchez Pet Mayor Election. The proceeds of this fun community fundraiser benefit DNA’s efforts to make our downtown district a more vibrant and pet-friendly environment, in addition to supporting local animal charities.
Inspired by the success of similar programs in Starkville and other Mississippi Main Street communities, former DNA Director Kevin Miers spearheaded the idea alongside the Promotion Team Chair, Elizabeth Greer.
“We’re really excited for this. It’s an opportunity to have some fun while making a positive impact in our community,” stated Greer.
The call for sponsors is going on now, January 28th, through March 7, 2025, with candidate registration beginning on March 17th. Registration is $25 per pet and is open to all cats, dogs, birds, guienna pigs, reptiles and all other pets that live in the Natchez/Vidalia area. Businesses and groups are also welcome to become a sponsor of a candidate.
The voting period is April 1 – 26, 2025, which can be done at the candidate’s headquarters or online at NatchezPetMayor.com. Votes are $5 each and voting is unlimited.
The winners will be tallied for 1st Place as the Natchez Pet Mayor, 2nd Place as Chief of Police, 3rd Place as Fur Chef, and 4th through 8th Place as the Board of Pawldermen.
The new Natchez Pet Mayor will have a collaring ceremony on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025.
